14 Months Old

Well here it is, another month, and I'm still blogging month by month.   It doesn't seem like there is as much to document this month...but figured I might as well.

This has been a challenging month. Asher knows what he wants and communicates by squeeling and pointing. We don't want him to think that is the way to get what he wants, but he has no other way to express himself. He knows that throwing his food off thr table, dropping his cup and rubbing food in his hair is wrong, bu he does it anyways... He will usually shake his head no, drop his cup, look up at us and then laugh....

He has always enjoyed books, but now he will grab a book and bring it to us to read. If I choose the book and it's not the one he wants he will close the book and point to the shelf for another one. We have started putting a book inhis crib and he will sit there and "read" before he falls asleep.

He has a mind of his own and he knows WHAT HE WANTS. Although its been challenging as a parent this month, it has also been a rewarding one. He is all over the place crawling and walking. The way his face lights up with pride is worth all the challenges and frustration. He is also becoming more affectionate (but only when he is in the mood). He will give hugs and some kisses, but thr best is in the morning when he is drinking his milk the way he will just snuggle in and rest his head on my Chest.

Anyone with small children knows that your privacy goes out the window. Asher is absolutely fascinated with all aspects of the potty and watching people go potty too. When we flush he waves bye bye to the toilet...kinda funny but also a bit disturbing. Hopefully his potty interest will translate to successful and somewhat easy potty training...just not quite yet.

He is an absorbent little sponge. He watches everything we do and will replicate the action. He will hold the phone up to his ear, run the brush through his hair and even try's to serve me his milk from his sippy cup or food from his fork.

Well theres a rambling highlight from what the last couple of weeks have been like in Asher's world.  Nowhere near the drastic change that we experience from 12mo-13 months, but still some foward movement on the toddler train.  A couple other updates on Asher at 14 months:
  • He is walking!
  • X Teeth
  • He can stack 2 blocks...but cant quite master the 3rd
  • He still drinks about 9 ounces of cows milk (from a cup) in the morning and at night
  • He is still a good eater but just doesn't seem to eat as much
  • He can identify and point to his head, eyes, nose, mouth, belly and feet
  • He's all boy.  Fascinated by airplanes, helicopters and big trucks (and big dogs too)
  • He loves repetitive action.  Take the spoon off the counter, open the drawer, put it in the drawer, close the drawer, take it out of the drawer, close the drawer again, put it on the floor, open the drawer and put it back into the drawer.  Luckily this will keep him entertained long enough for us to get dinner together on almost any given night
  • He is learning the difference between My nose, Daddys nose and Ashers nose
  • He is picking up a couple new words, they are really just sounds but he repeats it after us so I know its his way of trying to talk
    • Eyes: ice
    • Bye: Bah
    • Bath: Bah
    • Sara: Sssss
    • Toots: Tsss
    • That: Dat
    • Leaves: Leeez
    • Yuck: uk
    • Hot: Ha Ha Ha
    • I want: Squeel
  • He knows when to say Hi, Bye, and Uh Oh
  • He still takes 2 naps a day and goes down without a fuss on most days.  This past month his naps have been about 1.5 -2 hours each!
  • He sleeps from about 8pm to 7am and always wakes up in a very happy mood
  • He wears 9/12 month shorts/pants and 12 month tops and size 4.5 shoes
  • We have moved up to size 4 daytime diapers, and still in the size 4s at night
Its getting much more difficult to take these pictures, especially since now he can just slide off the chair, stand up and walk right over to me.
