Charlay in May

We do our best to see Sister and Jim at least once a month.  Sometimes it works out....sometimes it doesn't.  But after our trip to Charlay last year in May, we decided to make an annual Charlay in May trip!

We have the best time with Aunt Sara and Uncle Jim.  Their house is so comfortable and Asher feels right at home.  The part of town they live in is walking friending with parks on every corner.  We spent most of our weekend outdoors, walking and running and playing and exploring and running some more. Our only complaint is that the weekend was over too soon.

Asher is proving to be a great road trip companion.  We did a drive through for lunch and just one rest stop to get out and stretch and run!

Of course he fell asleep just as we got off the highway and only about 15 minutes from Sisters house.

We played outside all afternoon, and Asher even helped Aunt Sara give chip a bath.

He was very curious about Uncle Jims gravity boots...so Uncle Jim strapped in and took Asher for a swing.

For dinner we met Betsy and Chase and checked out the Food Truck Park.  The worst part is having to wait in line at the various trucks (we all were able to agree on one), but with Asher and Chase as entertainment, the time passed quickly.  Such a different experience from the ATL food truck park, because there was a nice grassy area (in a residential type neighborhood) that we could all sit and enjoy our food.  I had THE BEST fried green tomato grilled cheese sandwich ever.

The boys has WAY TOO MUCH FUN eating their dinner and popsicles, rolling in the grass and playing hide and go seek with each other.  Oh...and don't forget beating trees with sticks with Uncle Jim.

We had a long day, a late night, and only a 15 minute nap...but Asher was a champ, and LOVED to snuggle in Aunt Sara and Uncle Jim's pillow palace.  He must have been exhausted because he slept till 9:30 am the following morning.

Another beautiful Saturday in Charlay!
We ate lunch at a Maverick Rock Taco, a delish artesian mexican restaurant with cool decor and a rock and roll theme.  We sat outside, enjoyed margaritas (it was national margarita day) and watched Asher play corn hole!

We spent the rest of the afternoon at another one of the beautiful parks in Charlay.

Aunt Sara is tons of fun...especially when she spins and spins and spins and spins.

This park had multiple playgrounds, but the best one was the NFL "training course".  Sister and I actually left asher with Nick and Jim to go play on it ourselves...but then decided that we needed to include the boys in on our fun!

I think this is my ALL TIME favorite picture of my sister.

After a hot and sweaty day we took the boys back to the house for naps and sister and I went for manis! (She has the best nail salon, literally less than a block away from her house....the ladies there dont' talk in a language you cant understand, and all of the ladies getting their nails done all talk to each other about celebrity gossip...It felt like we were in a scene in a movie...so much fun!)

After naps, we fixed ourselves up and headed to ANOTHER park for a couple of quick family photos...courtesy of Uncle Jim.

We had a perfect spot picked out, with a water feature, a fountain, an arbor and a wall with lots of greenery...but as soon as we saw a dead bird floating in the water, asher was WAY too distracted to be cooperative for photos.  (Why is that bird dead? Did someone shoot that bird? Why did he die? Is he sleeping? Will he wake up? The bird died...like mommys hair? etc... you get the idea)

So we gave it a rest for a while and changed locations where asher could not see the dead bird and was a little bit more cooperative.

We brought Sushi in for dinner and Asher ate TON of it. And not just "asher sushi". He specifically picked all the salmon and tuna off the top of the rolls....(he makes his mommy so proud).  Then another snuggle in the pillow palace before bed.

The next morning Aunt Sara helped Asher make Seahorse Pillows for his new classroom  (Next week he will move from the clownfish class to the seahorse class).  Asher picked out all the colors (all shades of blue) and sponge painted inside the stencil.  He was not aiming for an ombre effect, but turned out super cool!
We picked up breakfast from our favorite Charlotte bakery, Sunflower Baking Company (also less than a block from their house) and walked to another park for a brunch picnic.

We had such a great weekend with Sister and Jim and love spending time with them in Charlay.  We cant wait to go back again soon!

Asher was QUITE worn out on our way home...but still didnt nap.
