Although Berts is the biggest and best pumpkin patch around, we decided that we would probably be sorry if we strapped Asher into the car seat and went for a long drive, and then had to sit in the car waiting just to get into the parking lot. Instead, we took him to Berry Patch Farms, and we are SO glad that we did. The drive took us about 20 minutes and we traveled through parts of Woodstock that we didn't even know existed. We still had that rustic nature feel and didn't even have to travel too far. A good decision on Mommy and Daddy's part (if we do say so ourselves).
When we arrived, we pulled right in, paid our $2 to park and were ready to explore! This was the perfect pumpkin patch for our little family that prefers to not be mashed in with a large crowd.
In order to get to the pumpkin patch you had to take a hay ride! Asher was intrigued by the big tractor that was pulling us, and this was a great way to control the amounts of people in the pumpkin patch at one time.
The hayride dropped us off in the field where they grow the pumpkins. Of course the pumpkins were not there anymore, they had been moved to another field where everyone could pick their pumpkins, but this area was sprinkled about with baby pumpkins and gourds for the smaller kids. Asher had a great time picking up the baby pumpkins and then throwing them right back down to the ground. Finally after he had touched about 17 pumpkins, he picked "the one".
We took the hayride back to the main area where there was a playground, other activities for kids and even a couple of goats, turkeys and chickens for the kids to see (but not touch). A visit to the pumpkin patch is not complete without some apple cider. We each got a glass and we filled up Ashers sippy cup with some too. He would NOT put that sippy cup down. (I should have diluted the cider with water but didnt think about it until it was too late). He CHUGGED that juice down, as if he hadn't had a drink in days!
We had a great day at the pumpkin patch, made some great memories, captured some classic photos and cant wait to do it again next year!
