12 Month Checkup

Asher had his 12 month checkup on Tuesday and he did great!  Lucky for us there was absolutely NO ONE there and we were called back almost immediately and we were in and out in just under and hour!  Asher was very curious in the waiting room and used the chair as a walker to get around from table to table...

I was anxious to see how much Asher had grown since the last time we had measurements was at his 9 month checkup.  I was concerned about his weight gain since he hasn't had any formula for 3 weeks and has gotten much more mobile.  But I was worried about his weight for nothing.

Asher's 12 Month Stats Are:

Height:  29.5 inches (30th percentile)
Weight: 21 lbs 3 oz (30th percentile)
Head: 47.5cm (75th percentile)

He gained 3 lbs in 3 months, but only grew 1.5 inches.  I hope he is not going to take after me in the height department.  Now his head on the other hand...Im just glad that he has a head full of hair to help mask his big head!

This was a big visit and he got 3 vaccines.  Hep A, Chicken Pox and Pneumococcal conjugate (whatever that is?!?)  He was NOT happy about his shots this time around, and took a good couple of minutes before he calmed down, but was a real trooper all day.  You wouldn't of known he had shots earlier in the day.

Dr. Worley was happy with all of his growth and development and said it was time for us to start him on whole milk.  She said that we could add some vanilla flavored coffee mate to the milk to get him "hooked" then, we can slowly decrease the amount of coffee mate.  She is so smart!  This worked like a charm.  We gave him a cup of milk at dinner Tuesday night and he drank the entire cup before even starting on his dinner.  And he has had a full cup of milk every morning since then!

Since we are adding back all this dairy (3 servings a day), she doesn't want it to aggravate his system and suggested that we mix in a teaspoon or 2 of benefiber 1-2x a day to help keep him regular, and so far we haven't had any problems.

Dr. Worley said that everything else looks great and even saw 2 of his upper molars starting to come in and was happy to hear that he was still sleeping through the night despite the two teeth cutting. She said those are some of the painful ones.  He has been a little fussier this past week, and even woke up a time or two at night, so its been nice to know there is a reason for that!

We don't go back for another visit until his 15 month checkup, and even though we love all the Dr's and nurses there...we hope we dont have to see them for another 3 months!
