DAY 13: SANDING, SEALING and PRIMING
Finally, we feel like we are starting to get somewhere. Since we have to split our time between the bathroom and our outside projects, we haven't gotten as far on the bathroom as we would have liked...but today we finally felt like we accomplished something. While Nick was fitting the final piece of cement board for the shower, Wendi sanded the third coat of joint compound and wiped down the walls to get them ready to prime and paint. Now that the final cement board has been laid and the shower is completely boxed in, we had to create seals where the boards met each other and the ceiling. Again thanks to the corner tape this made the task so much easier. Instead of joint compound we used tile adhesive so that we would have a water resistant seal. We ran out of tile adhesive just as we got the last piece on which was just as well because we have to let it dry before we can sand and add an additional coat. This meant all there was left to do for the day was to prime our greenboard. Priming the greenboard was very rewarding because it reminded us why we did so many coats of joint compound and while all the hardwork sanding paid off...we now have a nice smooth surface to paint on. We got a good thick coat of primer on, and will probably do a second coat of tinted primer before we paint, but for now its off to the showers and onto a delicious steak dinner (thanks mom!)...we are exhausted.
